Busy week

Whew. Finished reading all my friends' entries. Or most of them. Admittedly, I skipped shadesong and theferrett. I think they'll manage without me.
Now for things I wanted to say and didn't feel like putting into comments.

1. Politics:
I can't say whether America got the president they deserve. But now that Bush won, deal with it. The worst thing to do would be to fall into some sort of apathy and saying democracy doesn't work. Let's face it: this time, he actually did win. And if the majority of the Americans wanted him, you can think that is stupid, but they have the right to vote for him. That's the point of a democracy.
This is the place we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in...

2. People
scathedobsidian is one very lucky man. And if he isn't, he should be.
jaded_dreamer is very sexy. And very beautiful.
proetida should wear short skirts more often. She looks great!!
tuva was a very cute child.
I think those were the main things that came into my mind today.
We all know that most people on my flist are amazing writers / artists.

3. Hugs
I love you all. Hugs for the people who need them. [Insert good advice here] for people who need that.

OK, and now for an account of my week.

Starting with Tuesday.
Signed my contract and got tons of papers to read through. Telling about that I am not supposed to talk in detail about any information I might receive, and that I am not allowed to receive gifts in work-related situations. Stuff like that.
Drove to Hammelburg. People there didn't know I had to be in Munich in the morning and had expected me to be there at eight or so. Nice.
Still had time to be introduced to my new colleague. Found out that I am the boss of more people than I had known before, as there had been some change in organisation. Got a room on the base. Share it with a gal who is a doctor and just now joined the army. Means she has a pretty high rank without any military training. We get along pretty well so far. She's going to move out soon, but in December another person is going to get into the room with me. We'll see.
I eat three meals a day on the base, which is practical. Close to work and cheap.
The room is free for the first six weeks, because I have some sort of probational time, and during that time will receive money for being separated from my home. After those six weeks, they'll pay for me moving down there. Then I think I'll get my own place in town.


Wednesday more time to check out the library. My colleague is nice, but a litte chaotic. She doesn't finish one job before she starts something new, and gets easily stressed, and then she doesn't do much at all. Need to work on that. Also, some organisational stuff seems in need of some planning, but I want to go along with it for a while to really see the advantages and disadvantages. No use to change something now and change back in a few weeks when I discover why it had been done this way in the first place.
There has not been a head of the library for quite a while, almost a year. My colleague has been alone all that time. I was a little unsure at first whether she resented my being there, but she seems happy not to bear responsibility for everything now. I have to wait and see how things develop. She doesn't have the degree for the head position, so she didn't apply for it. Meaning I didn't take the job from her.
The library only has one computer with internet access. And that is for cataloguing and the lending system once we're doing that with the computer and acqusitions as well as the patrons. Not that we have many patrons, but it still sucks not to have internet access in my office on my computer.


Thursday slowly getting to feel normal. I still have trouble with the dialect if people talk fast, but it's getting better. And there are people from all over Germany anyway.
There are also a French, an American and a British officer, though I haven't seen them yet.


There is a general on the base, but I've only passed him on the corridor, not met him. Though I was welcomed by an Oberst today. Tehee. Meeting all the high ranked officers is fun to brag about. Makes my little brother angry who never meets any.

Workday starts at quarter past seven, so I get off early. Fridays I can get out at quarter to twelve, so I hit the road today long before the main weekend traffic and only got into one traffic jam all the way.
But ging to bed at nine feels late now. I'm usually so exhausted from meeting new people and learning new things that I just have dinner around half past five and go to bed a little while later.

Coming home today I was in time to take the dog for a walk and then get to choir rehearsal. The oratory by Frank Martin was okay, though not perfect. The Mauersperger was stellar. We were so great, even though we were singing a capella.
And the soloists for the Martin are fantastic. We have our favorite tenor to work with, he usually joins us for Christmas oratory as well and he gets along with the choir really well. When he sang his solo today, one of the younger sopranos behind me turned to a friend and said "Gosh, he's so hot." Now he isn't really hot. But his voice is, definitely. I'd think half of the choir has a crush on him just for that voice. And the base was fantastic, too. I don't think I've worked with him before. He's pretty young and not at all as bog as you'd think he is, and still he fills the whole church with his voice. I think I got a crush on him, too. ;-)

Tomorrow morning dentist's appointment and later final rehearsal. I should also do some shopping and get a haircut. Then in the afternoon the concert.

I have to go back on Sunday so I'll be on time for work on Monday. Need to get a parking sign for my car to prove I have the right to park on the base. Need to take a picture to put on my ID.

Wow! It sounds like you've been busy, but that's to be expected. And it sounds like you're settling into your new job well. I'm glad that you didn't take the job away from your colleague. It will certainly make it easier to work with her.

Good luck with the concert! And it's nice to see you back on LJ - even if only for a while until you find your own place.

And I haven't even written about our meeting yet because I was first too psyched out about the election (before) and then too depressed about the election (after) so I didn't do much personal blogging :-/

Nah, nothing to worry. Guess I was a bit blog-tired anyway, and every time I started up LJ, I was covered in election stuff I had to read, ponder, refute or answer.

As of now, I'm not quite sure what I'm expected to do, so I just try to familiarize myself with the library and the base.
