Ohrwurm

How do you call a song that is stuck in your brain and you can't get it out?
In German, that's an "Ohrwurm". And currently, my Ohrwurm is
The Lord of the Dance.
I had known the melody from the Michael Flatley show long before I found the song in the Methodist hymnal while in Maine, and when we sang it in church I was going like "Hey, they used the melody for a song!". Then I realized that it was far more likely the song had been used for the show.
Anyway.
In case you know the melody, you might know what I'm talking about.

Dance, dance, wherever you may be.
I am the Lord of the dance, said he.
And I lead you all, wherever you may be.
And I lead you all in the dance, said he.

And for the record:

Spürt ihr wie ihr rockt? - Yeah
Spürt ihr wie ihr rollt? - Yeah
Wißt ihr auch wer mich mein ganzes Leben lang verfolgt? - Yeah
Sein Name ist der Blues.
Und er ist gut zu Fuß.
Und endlich hat er mich erwischt und endlich geht's mir gut...

Sorry, more of Bernd das Brot. Another Ohrwurm.

I love the tune. My understanding is that that song actually comes from a Shaker tune "Simple Gifts" (which I guess didn't have enough obvious God in it for the other Christians).

I know that Shaker song, too, and I think the melody is a bit different. But "lord of the dance" could very well be based on that.
Thanks for the Wikipedia link to the Shakers. I didn't realize the ones left in Maine (been there) are the only ones left.

If you really like the song, I suggest the acpella version of it performed by Lordsong. They're a Christian group, and the song is lovely. I have the entire CD. I'm not exactly sure where you would GET it, but the entire CD is comprised of acapella hymns. Lord of the Dance is my absolute favorite.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check for that.
And welcome around my journal. :-)
