Would you believe it, it's me!
I have neither written nor read on LJ lately, I can't even say why.
I finally managed to get some of my Scotland pictures scanned, there will be a post on LJ (I'm crossposting this to all journals) later on. Also, I picked up the pictures of Kassel (family meeting), Trier (exhibit on Constantine the Great) and Prague (well, Prague) and will post some of those as well.
On Wednesday I went to see Hairspray. No spoilers, so don't worry, but if you want to see John Travolta in a pink dress, loads of tongue-in-cheek Grease references and a story that doesn't require all that much brain use, definitely go watch it. It's really funny, the soundtrack is great and the actors do a fabulous job.
Speaking of fabulous, after jogging yesterday I crashed on the couch and watched Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 version. *sigh*
Jane Austen is simply amazing. And the movie is fantastic. Keira Knightley is a perfect choice for Elizabeth, the Bennets are totally in character, Judi Dench is perfect as always and Matthew Macfadyen I think is a good Mr. Darcy. By the way, the article on Mr. Darcy on Wikipedia is great.
A notable feature of Mr. Darcy are his sometimes somber, broodingfacial expression. This and other mannerisms have led to the coinedphrase, "That's so Darcy." He is also notable for being considered one of English literature's sexiest male characters.
Anybody wants to argue that?
Last weekend, I jogged the 12 km in 1:45h. Not too bad considering it's uphill way too much. However, I bought myself a heart rate monitor and have changed my training based on that. The problem is, if I jog at a comfortable speed, my heart rate gets too high for my body to actually start using up the reserves, I just burn calories. Which isn't bad either, but not what I'm trying to do. So I force myself to go slower and keep the heart rate down. I think that also makes sure I keep an eye on technique, how I set my feet, how I move my arms, which certainly is a good thing. Theoretically, with more training I will be able to go faster without going higher than about 75 percent of the maximum heart rate. We'll see how that works.
On Sunday I'll go to the theatre and watch Verdi's Il Trovatore. Yay!
