I want to go to Scotland
Sep. 1st, 2007 07:45 pmI've been sorting through my photos, picking out the ones that will go into the photo album, getting them in order, taking one of Glencoe for the frame I bought in Iona.
I watched VH1 for most of the time - I can't believe I've been missing a music television station that's actually broadcasting music, as opposed to MTV these days - and what did they have to play but Queen's Who wants to live forever. Now for one thing, Freddy Mercury singing about living forever always makes me want to start crying because his death was such a waste of amazing talent. But the other thing is, this song is part of the soundtrack for - well, I suppose it's Highlander, at least a movie set in Scotland, and there were shots of scenery throughout the song that made me want to get onto the next plane and go back. Because it is just so amazingly, incredibly beautiful there.

Date: 2007-09-02 11:58 am (UTC)I loved Glencoe. The first time we visited Scotland, we stayed in Ballachulish (next to Glencoe) and toured Glencoe during the day. The second time we stayed in Glencoe proper. Not much to it, is there? But the scenery is gorgeous. Did you get a chance to visit the museum or climb to Signal Rock? We also went to the spot where the MacDonald's house was supposed to have been. My favorite memory of visiting there was having coffee with a local man named Arthur Smith who was the curator of the museum and quite a character.

Date: 2007-09-02 03:10 pm (UTC)I would have loved to just walk around for hours.
I think that is why I want to go back to Scotland so badly. Usually, when you travel and just visit museums and churches and stuff, you leave knowing that you've seen everything. But in Scotland, I'm curious to see the scenery in another season, or just in different weather, or just to get to look around for longer.

I met a girl in the youth hostel in Glasgow who had just come back from Iona, the day before I went up to Oban to go to Iona. She said she'd taken a four hour tour to Iona and Staffa and that this was enough to get a look around. Well, I spent almost six hours on Iona and it wasn't enough.
