Plotting

I've been plotting in the library to get us some nice signs and stuff to help people find their way around. The sergeant is willing to have stuff made, it is just a matter to make him want what I want. I want a professional, sleek look, I want signs that are versatile and low-profile yet will catch the eye - and yes, I do know that this is almost a contradiction. I also want to make the library look more modern, friendlier and more practical.
A few days ago I almost squeed out loud: there were several people who were looking for books on specific topics. In that case, what I usually do if I can't just point them to the appropriate section of the library (because the topic they want is in several different places; for example, literature on Afghanistan is not only in the geography and history section but also in the missions / deployment section), I print out the title information and abstracts from the catalogue and let them browse through those to give them an idea. Now, one guy was rifling through his papers while I printed out stuff for the next, and then he wandered off. And returned with the stack of books he had wanted, because he had figured out all by himself where to find them. Which means the system works, even though so far we have little to no signs up. Yay!

I'm plotting with my Lumione / threesome, which seems to be getting somewhere, though I need to dispose of Bellatrix first before she gets around to dispose of my characters. There are some dark scenes coming which will be a bit tricky to write, but I know I'll find the words I want, I just know it.

I'm plotting what to do on the weekend. The weather is supposed to be bad, which sucks, but I still think I'll get to do something - the bike tour is still on the list.

I'm plotting for the exchange. I've read through some of the prompts given and there are a multitude of possible threesomes, there are great prompts all around and I'm really looking forward both to receiving one to write and to reading all the great stories that are going to pop up in January.

We desperately need to print up signs for our shop. I spent a lot of time finding fonts that seemed appropriate, like curly and girly for Romance, and Western-paperback font for the Westerns section, but in the end that just looked goofy and unplanned. So now I'm leaning toward something more unified, organized and clean-looking. Do let me know what you come up with, if it's something you can easily share!

That one guy sounds like a fairly bright soldier! Always a good thing, because as Bruce Cockburn says in his song "Wondering Where the Lions Are," Polished and precise like the brain behind the gun (should be).

We have a holiday weekend coming up, which really only means the shop will be VERY slow on Monday...and that Monday is supposed to be quite cool. We're nearly done here with the heat of summer, I believe.

Summer? What summer?
Oh, do you mean the few hot days we had - was it April?

Sometimes, the amount of stupidity I encounter in soldiers scares me. Considering that those are the people who get to hold loaded guns... Fortunately, once you get to the ranks above the obligatory service kids, it gets much better. The NCOs might moan about the officers and the officers might look down on the NCOs a bit, but both groups do have some sense.
I like that line, though I don't think I know the song. At least I can't remember ever hearing the name Bruce Cockburn before.

As for signs, I use a simple font (will check on the name, I can't say offhand) in a shade of red that matches the red in the department's logo (which in turn is the three letters in black, red and gold with the logo of the infantry school incorporated). The logo is used as a watermark on the larger signs that tell people where to go, and I will likely put it on the smaller signs that tell people what to find on which shelf. Those smaller signs won't have a watermark and they will be written in black with red headings.

I want stuff to be easy to read and easy to recognise so that everything the library publishes will immediately be noticed as being from the library.
For you, maybe you could use a simple font, but a pictogramm for each section? That way you can separate the section while still giving it a unified and organized look.

And I think I really need to get a look at your shop. I'll probably take up [livejournal.com profile] martianmooncrab's suggestion and come up to your general area sometime after Portus.

Come ahead! We'll even pick you up at the airport, train or bus station, and give you a place to sleep if you're not allergic to animals.

*g*
I wouldn't mind if I got a threesome prompt to write.
Though there are a bunch of really great prompts even without Lucius involved.

Even if I don't get to write one, there will be several to read come January. Makes me very happy.

I blame you, you know. You got me into threesomes...
