I wish I was in Maine.
OK, nothing so unusual about that. But I wish I was in Maine today, right now (that should work even with the different time zone), and not just anywhere in Maine, but in Brunswick. Thomas Point Beach to be quite exact.
Because today is the 21st, and today there are the Maine Highland Games. In Thomas Point Beach.
I've been there before, and it was just so much fun, and really interesting.
As it is the 21st, it also is [livejournal.com profile] altonwings' birthday. I need to write him a Happy Birthday in a comment.

And while we're at it, there's the National Folk Festival (nationalfolkfestival.com) in Bangor, beginning on the 27th. *sigh* Is there such a feeling as Mainesickness, closely related to homesickness, but worse?
All of you who have the chance, go to Bangor. No matter what type of music you like, there's going to be something for you. I had a lot of fun there last year.

Thankyou! And I wish I was in Maine today too, but that's just because I am salivating over the shellfish they have that my heart (and tummy) lust for!

Shellfish? Well, not everybody's taste. Actually, I don't care much for most seafood.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say:
Zum Geburtstag viel Glück. Zum Geburtstag viel Glück. Zum Geburtstag, lieber [livejournal.com profile] altonwings, zum Geburtstag viel Glück.
That's "Happy Birthday" in German. You can sing it after the same melody.

sniff, sniff! My English sense is tingling! This looks like a job for... Nitpick Woman.
::pounces::
You can sing it after the same melody.
A quick poll of me and the dude here says that "with" or "to" might work better than "after", there. Me, though, I'd probably reword it entirely and say "It has the same melody", just to avoid messing up. But then I'm paranoid.

Jeez, isn't it boring to be right all the time? *g*
I have to admit I wasn't happy with "after" even when writing it. I suppose "to" would be better, but changing the word order completely makes most sense.
*making mental note*

Highland Games

OooooOOOooooo. Caber tossing! Pipes! Maybe even fiddles!1!
They have a Highland Games in Portland, Oregon (where I'm from), too, but I never made it there...

Sigh.

Out of curiousity, how are you at parsing extreme "English" accents, such as extremely Scottish, etc? Me, I could spend an entire vacation sitting on a bench in Edinburgh, listening to people talk and drooling.

It works, sometimes. The worst accent, actually, that I ever was confronted with was talking to somebody from Georgia. I had to have another American "translate" for me at first, before I got into it.
I don't think I ever talked to a real Scot though, so I can't say how that would be.
And I had to look up "parsing" online, because my dictionary doesn't list it - *grrr*. What do I have that thing for?
You should try the Maine Highland Games sometime, if you like this stuff. It was really great. And there is something about all these men in tartans... *ggg*

No, didn't see that.
But I did see "In the name of the father", and that was Irish. And I saw "Yellow Submarine" - whatever that is they speak in Liverpool, that was it.
It took me like 10 to 15minutes to get into it, but then I understood pretty much everything. Of course, with the pictures to go with it, that makes it easier.
(And thanks for that men in kilts community. Went and had a look...)

They speak "Liverpool" aka "Liverpudlian" in Liverpool. It's in England (although it's just barely north of wales), but they talk funny all over England in many different confusing ways. (=

(You're welcome.)
