Looking up the price of Harry's wand in the HP Lexicon, I noticed something interesting:

When Harry meets Professor Quirrell in the Leaky Cauldron, he does not feel any pain in his scar.
Hagrid says that Quirrell got weird after he took a year off to do some field studies.

Now, considering the things Voldemort says later, I had always thought that Quirrell picked him up during that year of absence, while he travelled around the world and also came to Albania.

However, if that was the case, Quirrell would have already had Voldemort sticking out of the back of his head at this time, which can't be as he doesn't wear his turban (not in the books, he does in the film) and Harry doesn't feel any pain when they shake hands.

Could it be that the timeline was warped even so early on???
