I just signed up for hp_valentine. Please tell me this was not the worst mistake I ever made. I fear I might screw up and terribly dissapoint somebody.

I just dared to because I am currently writing an original fic I might even post this year.

You write well and it's only 200 words. You can do it! I know you can! Ooh, maybe you'll get my request. That would be cool. ;)

Thank you for taking me so literally.
The fact that it is only 200 words is a little scary. I think marc Twain once pointed out that it's much easier to write a long, rambling article than to get to a point in a limited amount of words.

Two hundred words can be tricky, but as long as you keep your focus on a particular moment instead of a broad scene, then it's a lot easier. ;)

Yes, it's almost impossible to really describe a greater scene with 200 words. Well, it depends on what the task is going to be in the end, there isn't really anything I can do to prepare.

No, you can't prepare, but you'll have several days to work on it before it's due. What I generally do (and this may not work for you at all) is get the idea in my head and then write it out, keeping on an eye on the general word count and with the knowledge that I can generally get more exposition out of dialog than I can just from description.

Then I go back and start trimming and substituting and combining words, etc. until I have 200 exactly.

This is wonderful news! I was a little scared to sign up for hp_crimbo, but it was so very much fun! I got to write something new and different and I received the most beautiful gift from bleodswean. I loved doing it. I hadn't heard about hp_valentine until your post. Thank you for alerting me to it. I'll go sign up now!
