Clicking "Random Fic" on Ahswinder has led me to a wonderful story.
In the House of Fallen Angels by Rilla. Very touching, very sad at times, and still full of hope.

Oh, that's one of my favorites. Isn't it hauntingly beautiful? I remember reading this when my husband was in the hospital last winter. I'd printed it out and brought it to bed with me. So sad, but so very good.

Yes, it is. And it was the first time I read a random story that did not start out with "The war is over, the following people are dead, the others survived, and they are unchanged unless you find them out of character, then any change is due to the war."
It is very hard to describe what war does to people, and I think Rilla did a great job with it. Especially with Hermione not getting over killing somebody, no matter how well deserved.

That's a beautiful story. I absolutely love (in a shivery/creepy kind of way) the very original curse that the author came up with--forcing the conscious and subconscious minds to trade places. How horrible, yet what a lovely glimpse it gives into what's really going on in there...

Yes, that was a great idea. And it seems so likely a punishment for somebody like Voldemort to inflict on a person like Snape.
