Not good enough

I smile when you smile,
but that's just the way I am.
I share a laugh with you,
but that's nothing special.
You're good enough for me to talk to you,
but so are others.
You're good enough for me to spend time with you,
but you're not my favourite.
You're good enough for me to go out with you,
but you're not highest on my list.
You're good enough.
But that's not good enough for me.
My Mum says my standards are too high, I'm too picky. But I'm not desperate enough yet to change my mind.
Though I should probably not read a large part of my selection of historical romances back to back. It might still, despite all evidence to the contrary, make me assume there is such a thing as a man who knows his own mind and is willing to do something about it.
