I'd say go for it about the picture, but that would be me being selfish and curious about what you look like. I don't think it matters all that much and it's not a matter of judging, it's just another aspect of you that, combined with all I know from your writing, makes me feel that people are easier to 'know' when you have a mental picture of them, or a voice to associate to them, instead of just those words on a screen.
I have my picture all over my webspace and a hell of a lot of my Boy, even though most are just crappy random images and I hate my picture being taken on principle. I'm definitely not fond of my appearance, but you'd be surprised how many people will comment on photo posts, even when they're lj-cut with "OMG I AM UGLY YOU WERE WARNED."
If people are delusional enough to think I'm even remotely attractive, you'd have to be pretty repulsive to not have at least one or two people say "aww, you have such a great smile!" or "you're silly, I think you look amazing!" People are nice like that. :)
