One of these days, I'm going to kill Katrin.
I was in two meetings this afternoon, one at three, another at four. The second one went on and on, and I just slipped out about 4:35, 5 minutes after the end of the regular worktime, to call her at the library. I had no keys with me and wanted to tell her to either wait until I was back or at least leave the door open for me.
Of course, she had already left.
All my stuff was in the library, so arghhhh!
Fortunately, I got an extra key, so at least I could get in.
But really, after those two meetings, one discussing the ball (I still don't know what I am going to have to say tomorrow) and one about the layout for the school history, I
do not need this!Speaking of the ball, dear British friends, will you guys be online tomorrow around noon?
That will likely be the time when I finally get to know what I need to say, but I will have to do the translation myself. So I would really, really like a Brit to check what I make of it.
(This is not to disciminate the Americans, but as we're celebrating 10 years of partnership with the infantry school in Warminster, England, I do think I should try to go for BE instead of AE.)
On a more positive note:
Doing something for your health and fitness has immediate positive results.
In the fitness centre yesterday, Alexandra and I started chatting to these two guys who are here for a UN training.
One of them, a navy captain (well, his rank is "Kapitänleutnant" in German, which is the navy aequivalent of the captain in the army) asked me how to go into town for a place to eat.
The answer to this question here? Not at all.
There are no taxis or busses, so if you don't have a car, you're screwed.
Unless you meet a nice librarian who wants to go down to the supermarket anyway. So I took him into the town and then we went to the steak house together.
Everybody paid their own way, so it wasn't really a date. But it was a nice evening, we chatted about life, the universe and everything, and simply had a good time.
And today, he asked me to go out with him tonight.
I drive, as he doesn't have a car here.
But there we have La Vie again!
I firmly decide not to think about the books I still need to find, the ball, the school history, the audit or anything work related and simply enjoy a nice sunny October evening in good company.
And hell, do I love my job sometimes!
(And this weekend, as I will be here anyway, I can catch up on some work and try to find some nice new icons. For all my great new icon space. :-D)
ETA: A question for my German friends / friends in Germany: I need to find one of these director's chairs, something like this, as quickly as possible and as cheap as possible. It's intended as a gift for one of the soldiers here who's leaving the department, as a goodbye present from the whole crowd, and he leaves end of October. Any suggestions are welcome.
