Ugh

Dec. 20th, 2005 06:49 pm
I didn't get much done work-wise today. We had the ceremony for the change of command of our section(instead of a Lieutenant Colonel we now have a Major who'll likely be promoted soon) and also I had to do some moving of books.
Also, this morning we had a little end-of-the-year party during NATO-break. So not much real work.

Things got really ugly with Katrin today, though not involving me (much).
We had one of the guys here who tends to tease her a lot about not working and stuff. She always reacts very sensitive to it. But today, she almost started yelling at him, at least talking loudly enough so that people in the next room could hear her (meaning the whole thing was over our department in no time). Why he was always so mean to her and what she had done to deserve that, that sort of thing. And when he started saying it's her sucking work morals that are the reason he teases her about her - well - sucking work morals, she cut him off telling him she didn't want to hear another word of him or something like that.

I though briefly about getting involved, but I am sick and tired of defending the person who openly, even in front of others, tells me that she'll outlive me in this library anyway and that if I bother her too much, she'll just wait until I'm gone.

After the guy was gone, she sat at her computer muttering something about applying for a job elsewhere at a military library. I only barely managed not to go get her the list of job openings immediately.

At the reception for the major this afternoon, just about everybody knew of the thing already. We'll see where it goes. I suppose nowhere, though. She isn't tough enough to pull anything through.

Anyway. I sent another batch of Christmas cards today. They'll be late in the US and Canada, but I do hope I'm on time in Europe.
I think there were around ten or so today, mostly LJers. With the others I sent before I think I got almost twenty. My, I do know a lot of people. And I was at the post office with a friend who just kept grinning as I sorted the letters - those to the US, those to Canada, those to the UK, Norway, and so on - and the girl at the post office was quite shocked, too. Tehee. Not something they have there usually.

Time for a quick flist read before I leave work.
1. Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree?
Real! Of course.

2. Do you put up Christmas lights on the exterior of your home?
No. *shudder*

3. What's your favorite Christmas song/carol?
I totally need the cheesy songs. "Do they know it's Christmas", "Last Christmas" and that sort of thing. I hate "Silent Night", as it's played waaay too much. My Mom calls it the "Diakonissenwalzer" (deaconess' waltz) and she's d**n right. I do love "Es kommt ein Schiff geladen", my absolute favorite, very sad Christmas carol.

4. What do you like better, turkey or ham?
About the same. But we have neither for Christmas

5. Do you open up any Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?
I'm German. I open all of them on Christmas Eve.

6. Have you ever been Christmas caroling?
Once, the Christmas I spent in America. We don't go caroling here.

7. What was your most memorable Christmas gift(s) that you received?
The quilt I got from my American "mother".

8. What's your favorite Christmas movie?
I always liked the fairy tales that are on TV each year.

9. Have you ever built a real snowman?
A few times.

10. Have you ever peeked into a present and found out what it was before Christmas?
Yes. Once. It spoiled the surprise, which sucked.

11. What is on the top of your Christmas tree?
Depends. Usually the paper star that's the end of the paper decoration chain-type thingie somebody of the kids (my sister, I think) made.

12. Do you own a Santa hat?
No. I have two Christmas stockings, though.

3. When was the last time you had your picture taken with Santa Claus?
Never. He didn't sit around in our non-existing shopping centres when I was a kid.

14. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
It's done.

15. Do you put candy canes on your Christmas tree?
I don't think you can get them here.

16. Who is hardest person to buy for?
My Dad. No hobbies at all.

17. Who is the easiest person to buy for?
My Mom. If nothing else, you can always get her a book.

18. How old were you when you realized Santa was imaginary?
I never believed in Santa.

19. What does your morning of Christmas routine consist of?
Sleeping late, poke around the presents again, brunch with family.

20. Egg nog?
Excuse me? You're talking to the kid who doesn't drink alcohol.

21. What do you want for Christmas this year?
Peace on earth. And a lot of money for travelling. And knowing I can keep my job would be nice, too.
